British Columbia invites candidates for PR
Each year, 105,000 PR admissions are through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The annual number of PNP admissions started in 1998 and has been gradually rising. The federal and provincial governments view it as a helpful tool for fostering economic growth outside urban areas.
British Columbia-
On December 6, British Columbia invited prospective candidates to submit their applications for a provincial nomination. The province held a targeted tech draw and invited 144 candidates. Candidates from the International Graduates and Skilled Workers categories and Express Entry applicants received invitations.
Candidates needed SIRS scores of 95 or above to enter the tech drawing. Similar to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) for Express Entry, SIRS only applies to the PNP of British Columbia.
The following priority occupations must receive at least 60 points:
- Early childhood educators 32 and assistants (NOC 4214)
- 12 healthcare professionals from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, including Express Entry category
- Minimum scores of 60 for other priority occupations.
What is the SIRS?
Candidates for skilled jobs in BC must register with the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Based on their human capital characteristics, the SIR rates, and ranks candidates.
Like the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) used by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, SIRS performs similar functions (IRCC). The highest scorers in BC’s general draw will call for provincial nomination.
About BC’s PNP streams-
If you want to immigrate to British Columbia as a skilled worker, then you have two ways to choose from:
- Skills Immigration Stream
- Express Entry British Columbia Stream
Skills Immigration Stream:
Entry-level and semi-skilled skilled workers, healthcare professionals, international graduates, and postgraduates are all eligible for the Skills Immigration Stream. All applicants, except overseas postgraduates, must have a job offer or be employed in British Columbia. The BC PNP’s general Skilled Workers category has two streams. Following are the five pathways for skilled immigration:
Skilled immigration category-
Candidates must have a job offer from a BC company to qualify for this stream. Under NOC type 0, A, or B, they must demonstrate at least two years of experience in a skilled occupation.
Healthcare professionals category-
There is a separate stream for people working in the healthcare industry. This pathway accepts applicants from 11 healthcare professions. In BC, targeted drawings are frequently held for this stream to meet labor market gaps.
International graduates’ category-
Global grads must have received a job offer from a BC business and graduated within the last three years from an appropriate Canadian university.
International postgraduates’ category-
A job offer is unnecessary for postgraduates or individuals with master or doctoral degrees from a recognized Canadian university or college. However, they must have finished their study in the natural, applied, or health sciences.
Entry-level and semi-skilled category-
Candidates with experience in hospitality, tourism, food processing, or long-haul trucking are the program’s primary target audience. Those who live and work in the Northeast Development Region of BC may qualify for this stream if they are in other semi-skilled or entry-level occupations.
Express Entry British Columbia stream:
Eligible applicants can obtain priority processing for their BC PNP application and, if nominated, their permanent residence application. Express Entry BC (EEBC) integrates with the federal government’s Express Entry immigration selection system.
To earn 600 more CRS points to apply for permanent residency, an EEBC candidate who receives a provincial nomination can submit it with their IRCC application.
Entrepreneurs Category:
BC also offers a category for entrepreneurs. In this category, candidates must choose one of three options.
Base:
Applicants who are top managers or business owners and intend to invest money in a proposed venture in British Columbia.
Regional Pilot:
Candidates who want to start a new business in a small community in British Columbia can apply to this program.
Projects Category:
This category is for foreign-controlled companies or businesses to set up an operation with British Columbia. Five management, professional, or technical staff members may be nominated provincially under this program.
Candidates with Express Entry profiles can raise their CRS score by 600 points by obtaining a Letter of Nomination from a province. A high CRS score is advantageous for people attempting permanent resident status. With a CRS score of at least 796, Canada invited 932 PNP applicants to apply in the most recent Express Entry lottery on June 8. Since Canada requested 1,047 PNP applicants on March 2, this was the PNP draw with the most significance. IRCC typically meets on Wednesdays once every two weeks.
