FAMILY SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

The Family Sponsorship Program is designed to reunite families of Canadian Citizens and PR holders.  Under this program, Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents sponsor their family members who are living in other countries, to avail themselves of the status of permanent residency.

Sponsored persons can live, work or study in Canada if they get status of permanent residency.  To be sponsored, they must be close relatives of the sponsor and live outside Canada except in the cases of temporary Canada visa.

To sponsor a person, you must be of minimum 18 years of age and

  • You must be a Canadian Citizen, or
  • You must be a person registered as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act, or
  • Permanent Resident of Canada

List of close family members

  • Spouses and common-law partners
  • Dependent Children
  • Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Orphaned family members
  • their conjugal partner

Other family members (under very specific circumstances like humanitarian and compassionate grounds).
