Students Abroad Are Facing Accommodation Issues

A recent report by the global student housing company, University Living, shows a 60 percent surge in accommodation assistance among students compared to last year.

Why is Accommodation assistance necessary for students?

  • Additional services from the associates to the students without any hassle.
  • Wide varieties of options are available for the students suiting their budget and preferences.
  • Assurance of safe & healthy living space.
  • Reliable services
  • Student accommodation helps one gain emotional independence & trains one to sustain independence.

Countries like US and UK claim that they provide maximum visas to Indian students. After the coronavirus epidemic disrupted the plans of students to study abroad, they are now moving out of the country amid the easing of visa policy and dwindling cases.

Some students said they would either have to defer their plans to join during the current semester or need help finding a place to stay in the countries they have opted to study.

Vibha Kagzi, Founder-CEO of study abroad consultancy ReachIvy.com, said the same problem is occurring in off-campus accommodations. Delays in visa approvals delay the moving process. As most students avoid paying for off-campus rooms before getting visa approvals, leading to a rise in accommodation prices due to last-minute bookings,” said Kagzi.

Some Findings-

According to a recent Swedish National Union of Students study, 64% of international students need more than one semester to locate housing. In comparison, 24% do so within a month of starting their course.

The big cities of nations like Canada and the UK, which are the top choices for Indian students, are highlighting the housing challenges. All housing near university campuses in the UK is reserved, especially in major cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Bristol. Inflation, a rise in room rentals, and a lack of student housing forced students to reside in cities far from the towns their institutions are.

It is witnessing an increase in accommodation inquiries of around five times from July to September. Additionally, there has been an increase in undergraduate enrollment, which has resulted in a shortage of space in on-campus housing. In reality, due to the rise in students, several universities in cities like Glasgow, Manchester, and London, as well as some locations in Scotland, have been unable to accommodate incoming undergraduates. Some have even received housing offers from cities not less than an hour’s drive from their respective colleges.
