Calculation of show fund requirement and evidence of financial capacity:

Students applying to Australian universities must show the availability of funds covering the first year of their tuition fees and living expenses in Australia, OSHC (overseas student health cover, i.e., insurance), and return airfare. This shows fund requirement is calculated using the following table:

Particulars Amount in AUD (per annum)

Annual Tuition Fee:25,000/- (For Example)

Living Expenses     :20,290/-

Travel Expenses    :2,000/-

OSHC (Estimated) :1,500/-

Total (AUD)            :48,790*

*These are approximate figures and may vary from one university to another. Please Note:

  1. The above table has used a currency exchange rate of AUD 1 = INR 52. This conversion rate is a standard the Australian High Commission sets for fund calculation.
  2. The table has been prepared to assume that the student’s annual tuition fee is AUD 25,000. However, the amount is variable and depends on the university and the program for which the student is applying. Please refer to the student’s offer letter for the annual tuition fee.
  3. The values of living and travel expenses are standard and set by the Australian High Commission. They do not change regardless of the university and the location where students study in Australia.
  4. Students are highly recommended to show some additional funds in their accounts (Rs.1 lakh or more) and not just the exact amount to be shown to the universities (e.g., if the show fund requirement is Rs.25,00,000 as mentioned in the above table, students should try and show an amount of Rs.26,00,000 or more to make their case strong).
  5. They have to show the availability of funds for the first year of their tuition fee and living expenses in Australia and return airfare regardless of the program’s total duration (i.e., 2/3/4 years).

Conditions of the Offer Letter may include:

1. List of documents on the conditional offer letter asked for by the university where the student wants to enroll. It is very common for Australian universities to issue conditional offer letters to students. It is advised that students are not allowed to pay their tuition fee unless all conditions on their offer letters are met. Meeting conditions on the offer letter means submitting required documents or providing required information to the universities as they have asked for in the offer letter to students.

2. Some of the common conditions mentioned on the offer letters are:
  • Interviews: Universities that interview the students after submitting financial documents mention this condition on the offer letters. This condition is removed after the student successfully clears the telephonic/skype interview as specified by the university.
  • GTE Assessment or Financial Assessment: This condition is removed after assessing and verifying the financial documents of students.
  • Submitting IELTS/PTE/TOEFL scorecard: To remove this condition, the student must submit their IELTS/PTE/TOEFL scorecard to the university after getting desired scores. Suppose the student is not fulfilling the direct entry requirement but is eligible for ELICOS. In that case, they will have to apply for a revised offer packaged with ELICOS. However, if the student cannot meet the required minimum scores, he will have to retake any of these tests to meet this condition.
  • Submitting 7th/8th-semester mark sheet or provisional degree: Students who usually apply to Australian universities in the final year of graduation do not have their 7th/8th-semester mark sheet or provisional degree.
They receive an offer letter with the condition of submitting these documents later. Students must submit these documents after receiving them from the Indian university to fulfill these conditions.
  • SOP: Australian universities want to ensure that the student prepares a quality SOP and submits the same with his visa file. This condition is mentioned in the offer letter.
  • Gap Proof: Students having gaps in their profiles of 6 months or more may receive an offer letter with this condition. Students are required to submit activity proof detailing their activities in the gap period. Please note that the universities may mention other conditions on the offer letters of the students on a case-to-case basis, which they will have to fulfill before paying the tuition fee.
